The Geological Forum of the Department of Geology, Jagannath Borooah University, organized a student interactive lecture session, “GeoConnect 7.0,” on 2nd September, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the Conference Hall (2) of the institute.
The session was marked by the auspicious presence of resource person Mr. Girish Kalita, Senior Manager (Geology) North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) and also an alumnus of Department of Geology, Jagannath Barooah University (1996–1999) Batch.
The event began with a welcome address delivered by Ankita Paul, 5th semester student. Sincere appreciation is extended to the special Guest Vice Chairman Mr. Hemanto Kumar Gohain, Indian Red Cross Society, Assam State Branch and faculty members and students. Honourable Vice Chairman and the resource person was felicitated with a gamusa and a memento and he shared some words about the organization and its work and appreciated the students for cooperating and successfully participating in the survey and also looking forward for conducting such surveys in the future for helping students to interact and learn to help the people in need. Madhurjya Gogoi a student of 5th semester delivered a brief introduction about the importance and purpose of conducting Geoconnect lecture series. The event was further commenced by a brief presentation on Community Engagement Programme under the Indian Red Cross Society, Assam State Branch, as per National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 by a student of 5th semester, Jahnavi Borah. Further certificates were distributed among the students of 5th semester for successfully participating in the Community Engagement Programme focused on “Understanding Rural Living: Health, Safety and Disaster Awareness” which was conducted at Dakhin Hatichungi Gaon, Na-ali, Jorhat from 19th to 26th June, 2025.
Before starting the GeoConnect talk Jahnavi Borah gave an brief introduction of the resource person. The department extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Girish Kalita, Resource Person, for gracing the occasion with a special talk on “Hydro Power Project” with special reference to Projects in North-East India. Mr. Kalita brings with him over 20 years of experience in the field of hydroelectric projects and shared valuable insights with the students. The students interacted with him asked some queries which Mr. Kalita explained in depth and whole-heartedly and the department along with the respected resource person looks for further opportunities in the near future for helping students to gain knowledge in this field. The event then ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Sneha Borah, 5th semester student.
