The Department of Sociology commenced its Generic courses from the year 2016 and eventually started Honours Courses from the year 2019.Since then, there has been a consistent increase in student enrollment each year. Presently, the Department boasts a student body exceeding 350 individuals. Notably, three cohorts of students have successfully graduated with flying colors, achieving First Class to date. Many of these graduates are pursuing Master's degrees in esteemed universities across pan India.
The Department prioritizes the development of skilled and socially aware graduates through intensive teaching, training programs, and outreach initiatives. Its curriculum underscores the fundamental principles of sociology and the unique sociological issues prevalent in northeastern India, which are a focal point of the Department's teaching and research efforts. Employing a blend of participatory, experiential, and innovative teaching methods, the Department encourages effective communication, collaborative learning, and critical thinking among students. Furthermore, its pedagogical approach incorporates interdisciplinary perspectives, integrating classical methodologies with contemporary research trends.
Since its inception, the Department has been committed to providing quality education and fostering its students' holistic development. This commitment is reflected in various activities such as field visits, audio-visual sessions, group discussions, and interactive sessions conducted within and around the college premises.
The Department presently offering the FYUGP (Honours) program along with integrated PG program and strives to offer a diverse range of paper options aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) for undergraduate students
