International Symposium and Workshop, RARMSES-3.0

The aforementioned triduum programme is a series of India-USA collaborative practices encompassing the three institutes viz., Jagannath Barooah College (India), Georgia Institute of Technology (U.S.A) and Western Washington University (USA). The comprehensive programme covers recent advancements in methodological, technological, and theoretical domains of Geology, as well as their application in the Northeast Indian region. The event was organized by Department of Geology, Jagannath Barooah College and sponsored by National Science Foundation, U.S.A and Jagannath Barooah College, India in association with Western Washington University & Georgia Institute of Technology of U.S.A. The resource persons for the event were Dr. Paul Betka, Assistant Professor, West Washington University, USA and Dr. Aisilin Reynolds, President’s Postdoctoral Fellow, Georgia Institute of Techonology, USA. The highlight of the inaugural event was the award distribution of the INDIA-USA International Student-Exchange program. Dr. Betka gave his talk on his research work in the Indo-Burma ranges and Naga-Schuppen Belt. Dr. Reynolds shares her experience from her PhD work on U-Pb zircon thermochronology and its use in delineating the Southern Tibet normal fault zones. Dr. Chaitra Dhar Taye delivered his talk on probable existence of Mesozoic sediments in eastern Himalaya insights from U-Pb Zircon dating. In the last session, Dr. Raghupratim Rakshit shared a part of his international collaborative work on Brahmaputra flood and the role of mega structures.  Dr.s Betka and Reynolds also take care of the hands-on training session on Structural Geology and Tectonics for two consecutive days. On the final day, the participants got the chance to learn field-based knowledges from the resource persons in the one-day field school along Merapani-Wokha road section. The participants and students received the certificates for their participation. Mr. Thomas Urbina, M.S student in the Western Washington University also participated in the event as part of the student exchange program.
