The Geological Forum, in association with the Science Forum, Jagannath Barooah University, celebrated National Science Day 2026 with an inspiring programme that commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Surajit Sharma, Academic Registrar, JBU. The distinguished guests were felicitated with a fulam gamusa, memento, and a japi by the faculty members of the Department of Geology.

The event was graced by Shri Ashish Kumar Nath, Deputy Director General, GSI; Shri Mousam Kashyap, Senior Geologist, GSI; Shri Subhasis Sarma, Dean, Students’ Welfare; Dr. Gautam Kalita, Dean of Science & Technology; Dr. Jiban Saikia, Dean of Research & Development; Shri Gautam Adhyapak, Assistant Registrar, along with faculty members and students from various departments.

Following the felicitation ceremony, Dr. Chaitra Dhar Taye, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology, delivered a brief introduction to National Science Day, outlining the objectives of the event and highlighting the contributions of renowned women scientists across various disciplines. He also emphasized the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Jagannath Barooah University and the Geological Survey of India as a major milestone of the day.

The programme then featured an enlightening talk by Shri Subhashish Roychoudhary, Director, Technical Coordination Division, GSI, NER, on the theme “GSI in Nation Building: A Glorious Journey of 175 Years.” In his address, he highlighted the remarkable contributions of the Geological Survey of India over the past 175 years in geological research, mineral exploration, natural resource assessment, disaster management, and national development.

The celebration was followed by a Poster Competition organized by the Geological Forum in association with the Science Forum, JBU, where students presented innovative scientific ideas. The winners were awarded certificates and gifts:

During the certificate distribution ceremony, Shri Ashish Kumar Nath highly praised the students for their well-prepared and impressive posters. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Puja Borah, followed by the National Anthem. The event was ably moderated by Puja Borah and Abhishek Bora, 4th semester students of the Department of Geology.
