On First April,2026, the  Department of History, Jagannath Barooah University, successfully organized a historical drama titled “Maniram Dewan” as part of its experiential learning initiative for sixth-semester students. The programme aimed to provide students with an interactive and immersive approach to understanding history beyond traditional classroom methods.

The drama depicted the life and contributions of Maniram Dewan, a key figure in Assam’s resistance against British colonial rule. Through a powerful and engaging performance, the students brought to life the socio-political conditions of the time, effectively portraying significant events and personalities associated with the period.

This initiative was designed to enhance students’ comprehension of historical contexts, characters, and narratives through active participation. It fostered critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative learning among students. As a part of their in-semester evaluation, the performance also enabled a comprehensive assessment of their interpretative abilities, subject knowledge, and practical application of historical concepts.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Registrar of the University, who appreciated the efforts of the students and faculty members in organizing such an innovative academic activity.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and was attended by faculty members, students, and staff. The entire university fraternity thoroughly enjoyed the performance, which served as both an educational and cultural experience.

Overall, the programme was a great success, reflecting the significance of experiential learning in higher education and highlighting the effectiveness of creative pedagogical practices in enriching students’ academic journey.
